Graduate Students

Mathew Farias

Email: mathew.farias01@utrgv.edu

Mr. Mathew Farias is a graduate student working towards his master in mechanical engineering at UTRGV. Mathew Farias joined MTL in January 2020, his current research includes simulation of diffusion processes in Selective Laser Alloying using COMSOL. Mathew is an avid reader, amateur artist, and has a huge interest in all things Sci-Fi, which in turn largely drove him to seek higher education to be on the cutting edge of research and design.

Visiting Scholar

Jie Qu

Email: jie.qu@utrgv.edu

Mr. Jie Qu is a visiting student at Department of Mechanical Engineering. He is a Ph.D. candidate from China University of Mining and Technology. Mr. Jie Qu joined MTL in June 2018. The focus of his research is the experimental characterization of evaporation of complex fluid droplets, the experiments utilize Electrodynamic Balance (EDB) device and acoustic levitation system to suspend the droplets in the air, and the numerical simulation will be conducted using MD simulation.

Undergraduate Students

Julio Trevino

Email: julio.trevino02@utrgv.edu

Mr. Julio Trevino III is a Junior B.S student. Julio joined MTL in May of 2018. With the UTRGV Engaged Scholar award, his current research consists on Oscillating Flow and Multiphase Heat Transfer in Bio-inspired Porous Medium with Super-hydrophobicity Coating. He has strong interests in aerospace and materials engineering in which he hopes to build his career on in the future. He is also a NASA Pathway’s Intern at Armstrong Flight Research Center in Edwards AFB, California.

Shaddi Barillas
