Computing beyond digital electronics

How can molecules, crystals, and physical systems compute? This course explores unconventional models of computation and the algorithms they make possible.

Schedule & topics

The course is roughly divided into five sections:

  1. Computing with molecules — chemical reaction networks (CRNs)
  2. Computing with crystals — self-assembly
  3. Computing with thermodynamics — thermodynamic binding networks (TBNs)
  4. Computing with mechanical systems — linkages
  5. Computing with subatomic particles — quantum computing

Problem sets, exercises & projects

Resources
