I graduated from the Universidad Autonoma del Estado de Morelos, Mexico, in 1998, with a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics. Before I joining UTPA in 2004, I received a fellowship to pursue graduate studies at the University of California Riverside, where I obtained my doctorate degree in Computer Science. Currently, I am a full Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.

I enjoy all kinds of outdoor activities. I miss skiing on the white mountains of California. I also love scuba diving, I am an open water scuba diver certified by PADI. However, racquetball is my passion. I played racquetball regularly with colleagues and friends. My game is very competitive; I have participated and won some local and regional racquetball tournaments in the valley.
