Fall 2023

  • Alitza and Rebakah's paper on "Conformational landscapes of symmetrically fluorine-substituted benzoic acids I: Microwave spectroscopic and theoretical studies on 3,5-difluorobenzoic acid " was accepted for publication on Journal of Molecular Spectroscopy, Congratulations! Summer 2023

  • Dr. Lin presented in the 2023 IEEE International Symposium on Antennas and Propagation and USNC-URSI Radio Science Meeting – AP-S/URSI 2023 (July 2023)
  • Hunter received the Engaged Scholar Award for his work on "Exploring the solvation process of perfluorooctanoic acid: One water at a time" in the fall!
  • Jennessa received the Engaged Scholar Award for her work on "Conformational analysis of perfluorooctanesulfonic acid" in the fall!
  • Alitza and Dr. Lin visited University of Minnesota to carry out spectroscopic research in collaboration with the research group of Prof. Kenneth Leopold (June-July 2023)
  • The Lin group has one undergraduate student intern position open for the 2023-2024 academic year. The pay rate is $12/hour with a maximum of 19 hours/week. Please contact Dr. Lin for work responsibilities and eligibilities of this position by July 31 if you are interested.

Summer 2022

  • Zayra defended her Master degree on Aug. 16, 2022. Congratulations, Zayra! We wish you a bright future!
  • Our alumnus Alexis Delgado defended her Ph. D. degree in July 2022 at Southern Methodist University. Congratulations, Dr. Delgado!

  • Karla received the UTRGV COS best thesis award for 2021-2022. This award is given to only one graduate student from each program every year. Congratulations, Karla! We are very proud of you!
  • Keila received the outstanding Welch Undergraduate Academic Award in Physical Chemistry for Spring 2022

  • We change our group meetings back to in person meetings starting March. Our first face to face group meeting is at 9 AM on March 4 at BLHSB2.908. Students interested in research are welcome to join.

  • Keila received the First place undergraduate poster representation award in chemistry section of 2021 Annual UTRGV College of Sciences Student Conference for her presentation on "Quantum Chemical Calculations on 2,2,3,3,3-pentafluorol-1-propanol"!
  • Alitza (Bachelor of Science, Summa Cum Laude), Karla (Master of Science), and Diego (Master of Science) graduated! Congratulations!

  • Professor Elfi Kraka from Southern Methodist University visited UTRGV. Professor Kraka gave a department seminar on her research and introduced the new PhD program on theoretical chemistry. Our alumnus Alexis Delgado was featured in her talk as one of the first cohorts graduating from this program.
