Sarah Ybarra

Classification: Junior
Town: Mission, Texas
Wants to be: Dentist
Hobbies: Attending retreats, arts, crafts

My secrets for good grades are:

Attending class and reading the book is IMPORTANT!!

The figures help a lot especially if you are a visual learner.

Writing out you own outline after you have read the chapter helps concepts and terminology to stick.

Always review the notes Dr. Materon gives you and follow them along in the book when you review the chapter.

Highlight and underline specific details in your book and note them in class as well.

Have the chapters read and studied in STUDY GROUPS help out a lot. In the study groups review together the notes and recite the questions.

All of this helps you when answering the questions on the exam. TAKE your book to class as well. All of this heps you to grasp the concepts and details.

Wants to be: Physician
Hobbies: Working out, playing sports, and sleeping

My secrets for good grades are:

Going to class and listening to the changes or additions Dr. Materon makes to his notes is essential to being able to answer most of the questions on the tests and quizzes

Reading the book to supplement the notes before each quiz and then again and before the test.

When reading the notes or the textbook, do not purely focus on the concepts but pay close attention to minor details.

Anything Dr. Materon stresses in lecture will always be tested over. DO NOT MISS CLASS!!

Julia Potocnjak

Classification: Senior
Town: McAllen
Wants to be: Infectious Disease Specialist or Forensic Pathologist
Hobbies: Working out

My secrets for good grades are:

Reading the textbook will not help if you do not attend the lectures and understand basic concepts in each chapter.

Dr. Materon is very accessible and always is available if you have a question.  If you can't seen him during office hours, email him your questions and he will do his best to answer them.

Print up the lecture notes and follow along in class, taking additional notes as well.

Cover material each day so that you don't fall behind and DON'T GET DISCOURAGED.
