Dr. John P. Abraham Plaza University of Texas
– Rio Grande Valley A circular plaza located along the
primary transverse pedestrian Paseo near the east side of the Edinburg
Campus, just slightly northwest of the Engineering Building, between the two
current engineering buildings was dedicated on April 22, 2022. Link to a short video, the invitation and
related photographs are given below. The University has undergone three
name changes since Dr. Abraham was appointed to the faculty. He joined Pan American University faculty on
June 1, 1976. In December 1988 Pan American University was merged into the UT
System, changing its name to University of Texas-Pan American. On August 31, 2015 UTPA
merged with UT-Brownsville and became one
institution which is currently known as UTRGV. Dr. Abraham served as a faculty
in all three institutions since 1976 and served in many capacities
establishing several degree programs. Dr. Abraham held offices or taught
in all the buildings surrounding the Plaza named after him. |
