Welcome

The goal of the meeting is to provide a relaxing environment for experts and students to share recent results, projects, and future directions in Applied Mathematics.

Theoretical, computational, and numerical talks in pure and applied mathematics, statistics, physics, engineering, medical sciences, and related areas are welcomed. The talks will be 25 minutes long with 5min for Q and A. Students are invited to submit a poster presentation.

The meeting is supported by the SIAM-TX-LA section and the UTRGV College of Sciences and School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences. The meeting will be held on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, November 5-7, 2021, at the Courtyard by Marriott South Padre Island on South Padre Island which provides excellent conditions for work and collaboration.

COVID-19 SIAM Policies

The 4th annual meeting will be an in-person conference. Per SIAM policy for in-person meetings, attendees are required to wear face masks to participate in the conference and it is strongly recommended that attendees are fully vaccinated. Participants who are not fully vaccinated are asked to have a negative COVID test no more than three days before the conference starts. The staff at the conference venue, Courtyard by Marriott South Padre Island, follow all of the CDC guidelines for the health and safety of their guests.

Call for Minisymposia

Please follow the SIAM guidelines for preparing a Minisymposium Proposal. Each oral presentation will be 25min long with 5min for Q and A.

While SIAM welcomes speakers and session organizers from outside Texas or Louisiana, or who are not SIAM TX-LA members, we strongly encourage (and may give preference to) the participation of section members and members of the mathematics community (faculty, students, academic and non-academic researchers) from Texas and Louisiana and see this as an opportunity to showcase their achievements. Please note and remind potential speakers that the organizers do not provide travel support. You may propose 1 (4 talks), or more minisymposium sessions, up to a maximum of 4 sessions (16 talks). Note that a single participant may give at most 2 talks in 2 different minisymposia.

Registration fee schedule:

  • $25 for students
  • $100 for postdocs
  • $125 for all others
  • +$50 after registration deadline

The registration fee will cover coffer breaks, lunch, and dinner.

Various Tips

  • No State Tax: Conference participants that are employed by Texas state universities are not supposed to pay state hotel tax at the hotels. Please download, fill out, and provide the form Texas Hotel Occupancy Tax Exemption Certificate at the hotel check in.
  • Border Patrol: Due to our proximity with the border, be sure to have your immigration documents or proof of citizenship with you, whether you travel by car or airplane. E.g. here is one of the border patrol checkpoints. You will need documents for the return trip, even if you are travelling by airplane.
