8. A scene from a lurid English legend: the
young princes in the Tower of London, placed there by their
protector-regent-uncle Richard of Gloucester (later King Richard III) for
"safe-keeping." The "tender babes" were reputed later to be
murdered, at their Uncle's orders, by the infamous Tyrrel. This, of course,
added to the unpopularity of a King who would soon lose his crown. It is very possible
that Richard III was innocent of this bloody misdeed. What then happened to the
princes? One suggestion is that after Henry Tudor took the crown from Richard
III, he (now Henry VII) found the princes alive in the tower; and, to keep his
throne undisputed, he ordered them murdered.
